"Visit This Vine"
Amidst the stresses and strains of a busy life, it's great to find some time to relax to music which is not only beautiful and gently soothing, but which also allows
one's thoughts to be directed heavenwards. Jon and Eva Salsbury are part of Restoration Temple, Lima, Ohio, from whence comes this inspiring ten-song collection. 'My desire is to write songs that can easily be sung and
cause the one singing them to focus more on Jesus than on the song' relates Jon, reflecting the paramount motive of any true worship-song writer. Certainly these tunes are deeply worshipful, both lyrically and in their prevalent
atmosphere of adoration. Unlike most worship material these days, many of these pieces contain several distinct verses plus chorus. There's musical diversity too, with the inclusion of some light pop-funk (the opening title-track),
a bit of gospel-soul (care of the gifted 15-piece choir), and, definitely the weakest cut on offer, the rather 'twee' country-pop bounce of 'Join the dance'. Throughout, the couples' voices intertwine in beautiful
harmony - Jon doing lead vocals on most tracks, also providing most of the keyboard work. Overall, the great strength of this album is the wonderful flow of worship created and sustained - this climaxing in several
profound and intimate expressions towards the close. As an independent debut "Visit This Vine" is commendable; but in it's own right it's a truly lovely album - far too good to miss out on!
