The sense of enthusiasm in many churches across the world these days is almost tangible. While not to be
confused with the Hillsongs title of the same name, this "Overwhelmed" release does, interestingly, contain a similar rich sound and warm flow to much of the output emanating from 'down under' in recent years.
Recorded live at the Capital Christian Centre, Boise, Idaho, this worship team, fronted by writer / musician Jay Smith combines streams of abandoned praise with songs of intercession for the USA and other nations, and
with gentler, anointed worship. Tracks like 'Fill the temple', 'We enter in' and 'River of God' (all composed by Smith) flow along with upbeat passion - each aided by full backing of the CCC choir and a strong
band which includes sounds from trumpet and flute, as well as some great guitar playing! While the title-cut is perhaps the album's centre-piece, the simple 'Come and just believe' too, is a beautifully flowing song,
honing in on the riches of Jesus. And though I found the pastor's 'prophecy' of revival towards the close rather edgy and presumptuous, the actual music throughout comes over as warm, vibrant and genuine. A
generous bonus with this venture is it's non-copyright feature - the tunes and lyrics may be copied / translated without cost or permission. Free chord charts, too, are available too at www.nocomp.org
. Such is the desire of this team to share the blessings they have received with others! Don't be put off by the drab cover - "Overwhelmed" is an accomplished pageant of worship and praise.
